Wizz Air Grounds 45 Aircraft for Engine Checks, Faces Significant Financial Impact
Wizz Air has grounded a fifth of its fleet, approximately 45 aircraft, due to a manufacturing flaw in its Pratt & Whitney engines. The issue stems from a rare powder metal defect which requires extensive and lengthy inspections of the affected powerplants. This has caused significant operational disruption for the airline, leading to a major financial impact. Wizz Air has stated it expects to receive financial compensation from RTX, the parent company of Pratt & Whitney, for the costs incurred. The grounding affects the carrier's Airbus A320neo and A321neo fleets.
