When a 1950s Swedish Fighter Jet Intercepted Two US F-117 Stealth Nighthawks
Two U.S. Air Force F-117 Nighthawk stealth jets were intercepted while attempting to transit through neutral Austrian airspace. The American aircraft, designed to be invisible to radar, were on a mission likely related to operations in the Balkans. Despite their advanced technology, the F-117s were detected and tracked by the Austrian Air Force. The intercepting aircraft were Saab 35 Draken fighters, a Swedish design originating from the 1950s. This incident highlighted that under specific conditions, even older technology could successfully counter stealth capabilities. The Nighthawks were subsequently escorted out of the country's airspace without escalation.
