USAF Designates Ellsworth Air Force Base as First Operational Home for B-21 Raider
The United States Air Force has officially selected Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota as the first main operating base for the new B-21 Raider stealth bomber. The base is set to host the first operational B-21 squadron as well as the formal training unit for the advanced aircraft. This decision finalizes a process that included an extensive environmental impact study. The B-21 Raider is the next-generation long-range strategic bomber, designed to eventually replace the B-1 Lancer and B-2 Spirit fleets. Whiteman AFB, Missouri, and Dyess AFB, Texas, are also slated to receive B-21s as they become available.
