US Air Force Initiates Search for Next-Generation Airlifter to Replace Iconic C-17 Globemaster
The United States Air Force is actively exploring replacements for its venerable Boeing C-17 Globemaster III transport fleet. This initiative, known as the Next-Generation Airlift (NGAL) program, seeks a successor to the workhorse aircraft that has been in service since the 1990s. The Air Force is considering innovative designs to enhance efficiency and capability, with the blended wing body (BWB) concept emerging as a leading contender. Major aerospace manufacturers are expected to compete for the multi-billion dollar contract. The NGAL will not only replace the C-17 but is also intended to eventually succeed the older C-130 Hercules, shaping the future of US strategic airlift for decades to come.
