US Air Force FY25 Budget Prioritizes Drones and Collaborative Combat Aircraft Program

The U.S. Air Force has proposed a $217.5 billion budget for fiscal year 2025, signaling a strategic pivot towards modernization and uncrewed systems. A key focus is the significant funding increase for the Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) program, which aims to develop at least 1,000 autonomous drones. These CCAs are intended to operate as robotic wingmen alongside next-generation fighters, enhancing mission capabilities. To finance this technological shift, the service plans to divest over 250 legacy aircraft, including the A-10 Warthog and older F-15 models. The budget also supports the acquisition of modern platforms like the F-35A, F-15EX, and the B-21 Raider stealth bomber.
