United Boeing 777 Loses Wheel During Takeoff from San Francisco, Diverts to Los Angeles
A United Airlines Boeing 777-200ER, operating as flight UA35, experienced a major issue shortly after departing from San Francisco International Airport. During its initial climb towards Osaka, Japan, the aircraft lost one of the wheels from its left main landing gear assembly. The crew declared an emergency and initiated a diversion to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The separated wheel and tire fell into an employee parking lot at SFO, damaging at least one vehicle. The aircraft landed safely at LAX with no injuries to the 249 passengers and crew on board.
