United Airlines Returns First Premium 787-9 Dreamliner to Boeing for Disassembly
United Airlines has sent its first premium-configured Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner back to the manufacturer. The aircraft, registered N38950, was flown to Boeing's facility in Everett, where it is expected to be broken down for parts. This specific jet was one of the early production models known as the "terrible teens," which were overweight and had non-standard builds. Delivered in 2014, the aircraft operated for a decade before its final commercial flight in April. The return is part of a long-standing agreement between the airline and manufacturer concerning these unique early airframes.
