U.S. DOT and FAA Developing Advanced Platform to Modernize National Aviation Data Sharing
The Volpe National Transportation Systems Center is collaborating with the FAA and NASA to develop a new aviation data-sharing infrastructure called the National Airspace System (NAS) Data Service (NDS). This initiative aims to provide secure, scalable, and equitable access to vital aviation data for government, industry, and academic researchers. The NDS will replace legacy systems with a modern, cloud-based platform. This new service is critical for supporting the development and integration of emerging technologies like Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). Ultimately, the platform will enhance research capabilities and foster innovation across the aviation sector.
