Stornoway Airport Could Return to Private Ownership Under New Proposal
Stornoway Airport, currently operated by the government-owned Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd (Hial), may return to private ownership. Stornoway Port has submitted a formal proposal to the Scottish government to acquire the airport. The port authority, which originally built the airport in the 1930s, believes local control would better serve the community and economy. A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the two parties to explore the potential transfer. The final decision now rests with Scottish ministers who are reviewing the bid.
