Solomon Airlines Loses Appeal to Block Qantas on Brisbane-Honiara Route
Australia's International Air Services Commission (IASC) has rejected an appeal from Solomon Airlines, reaffirming its decision to grant Qantas rights to operate the Brisbane-Honiara route. Solomon Airlines had argued that Qantas's entry would cause "irreparable damage" to the national carrier, potentially forcing it off the route entirely. The commission, however, stated that increased competition would benefit the public and is consistent with Australia's aviation policy objectives. This decision clears the way for Qantas to launch up to seven weekly flights, although the airline has not yet announced a start date for the new service.
