Solomon Airlines Loses Appeal to Block Qantas on Brisbane-Honiara Route
Australia's International Air Services Commission (IASC) has dismissed an appeal by Solomon Airlines, upholding its decision to grant Qantas capacity on the Brisbane-Honiara route. Solomon Airlines argued that competition from the Australian flag carrier would cause irreparable damage, as the route is critical to its financial viability. The airline contended that the market was too thin to sustain two operators. However, the IASC affirmed that introducing competition is in the public interest. The decision clears the way for Qantas to begin services and end Solomon Airlines' long-standing monopoly on the route.
