Shetland's SaxaVord Spaceport Awarded UK's First Vertical Rocket Launch Licence
The SaxaVord spaceport in Shetland has become the first facility in the United Kingdom to receive a licence for vertical rocket launches. Issued by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the approval greenlights up to 30 launches per year. This decision follows an extensive safety and environmental assessment of the spaceport's operations. The milestone represents a significant step for the UK's ambition to compete in the global small satellite launch market. The first orbital launch from the new site could take place as early as this year.
