Scottish Airports Face Summer Strike Action Over Pay Dispute

Firefighters at 11 airports operated by Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd (HIAL) in Scotland are set to strike during June and July. The industrial action, led by the Unite union, is a result of a pay dispute with HIAL management. Union members rejected a 5% pay increase, which they argue constitutes a real-terms pay cut amid high inflation. HIAL maintains it is bound by the Scottish government's public sector pay policy. The strikes are expected to cause significant travel disruption across the regional airport network during the peak summer season.
