Royal Navy Helicopter Training Relocates as RNAS Culdrose Airfield Temporarily Closes for Upgrades
The airfield at Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Culdrose in Cornwall is closing temporarily for critical upgrades to its air traffic control systems. All flying training operations, primarily for the Royal Navy's Merlin helicopter crews, will be relocated to RAF Valley in Anglesey, Wales. The Ministry of Defence has confirmed the work is essential for the long-term safety and effectiveness of the base. RNAS Culdrose is one of the largest helicopter bases in Europe and a vital asset for UK naval aviation. The upgrades are expected to be completed later this year.
