Royal Canadian Air Force Boosts Pilot Salaries Amid Retention Crisis
The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) is implementing a significant salary increase for its pilots by 2026 to combat a severe retention problem. An experienced Captain flying fighter jets could see their annual pay rise to between C$162,000 and C$204,000. Despite the substantial raise, there are concerns that it may not be enough to stop pilots from leaving for the private sector. Commercial airlines offer substantially higher salaries, creating a major challenge for the RCAF's ability to retain its highly trained aviators. This issue is particularly critical as Canada prepares to integrate new advanced aircraft like the F-35.
