Porter Airlines' Strategy for a Second Montreal Hub Aims to Avoid a Repeat of the Mirabel Airport Failure
Porter Airlines is leading the development of a new C$200 million passenger terminal at Montréal Saint-Hubert Airport (YHU), positioning it as a convenient secondary airport for the city. This project is a direct response to the lessons learned from the failed Montreal-Mirabel Airport, which suffered from a remote location and poor transit links. Unlike Mirabel, Saint-Hubert is significantly closer to downtown Montreal and will be connected by the REM light rail system. The new terminal, expected to open in late 2025, will feature nine gates and primarily serve Porter’s Embraer E195-E2 jets. The goal is to provide a streamlined, modern travel experience and alleviate congestion at the main Trudeau International Airport (YUL).
