OHB Secures €430 Million Eumetsat Contract for EPS-Sterna Weather Satellite
The European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (Eumetsat) has awarded a significant contract to Germany's OHB System AG. Valued at €430 million ($467 million), the deal is for the development and construction of the first Eumetsat Polar System-Sterna (EPS-Sterna) satellite. This new spacecraft is a critical part of Europe's next-generation polar-orbiting system for operational meteorology and climate monitoring. The mission will provide advanced microwave sounding data to improve weather forecasting accuracy. The contract includes the initial satellite with an option for two additional units, with the first launch scheduled for late 2030.
