NTSB Report: Pilot in Fatal Bowie Crash Reported Disorientation Before Last Contact
The National Transportation Safety Board has released its preliminary report on the fatal plane crash in Bowie, Maryland on February 26. The report details the final communications from the pilot of the Grumman American AA-5, who died in the incident. Just before the crash, the pilot told air traffic controllers he was "experiencing some difficulties" and was "starting to get a little disoriented." The controller attempted to provide guidance, but the pilot's final transmissions were unintelligible before radar contact was lost. Investigators noted the pilot was not instrument-rated, and instrument meteorological conditions were present at the time.
