NEC Taps Apex Bus for 2027 Laser Communication Technology Demonstration
Japanese technology firm NEC has selected Apex Space to provide its Apex satellite bus for a crucial in-orbit demonstration in 2027. The mission will test NEC's high-speed, inter-satellite laser communication system, known as Seiren. This project is a key part of a research and development program funded by Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. The ultimate goal is to establish a secure, high-capacity, space-based communication network. The system aims to achieve data transmission speeds of 10 Gbps between satellites.
