Lufthansa Nears Decision on Major Widebody Order as First 777-9 Prepares for Flight
The Lufthansa Group is approaching a final decision on a significant new widebody aircraft order, expected in the first half of 2024. The airline is evaluating both the Boeing 777X family and the Airbus A350-1000 for this crucial fleet modernization. This potential order aims to replace aging aircraft, including its Airbus A340-600s and Boeing 747-400s. The news comes as the very first Boeing 777-9 built for Lufthansa, the aircraft's launch customer, is being prepared for its inaugural flight ahead of a planned 2025 delivery. The deal could involve a firm order for 20 to 30 aircraft plus additional options.
