Investigation Underway After Recently Certified Pilot Dies in Maryland Plane Crash
A small, single-engine plane crashed in Bowie, Maryland, on May 26, resulting in the death of the pilot. The victim, 62-year-old Scott R. Williams, had received his sport pilot certificate just 18 days prior to the fatal incident. His Ekolot KR-030 Topaz aircraft went down near a home shortly after taking off from Freeway Airport. According to a preliminary report, witnesses saw the plane make a sharp bank before descending rapidly. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are investigating the cause of the crash.
