Inside the Davis-Monthan Boneyard: The World's Largest Military Aircraft Graveyard
The 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG) at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona is the world's largest military aircraft boneyard. Spanning 2,600 acres, the facility is home to over 4,000 aircraft from the US Air Force, Army, Navy, and other government agencies. The dry desert climate is ideal for preserving these assets. While some aircraft are stored for potential future use, many are stripped for spare parts to support active fleets. The boneyard's mission includes not just storage, but also regeneration, returning some aircraft to flying condition.
