Full Order Books Diminish Impact of Potential Iran Aviation Deal for Boeing and Airbus
The potential reopening of Iran's aviation market may no longer be a major opportunity for Boeing and Airbus. Unlike in 2016, when the Iran nuclear deal spurred large aircraft orders, the current market dynamics are vastly different. Both manufacturers currently face massive order backlogs for their most popular aircraft, with production slots sold out well into the next decade. Consequently, even if sanctions were lifted, Iranian airlines would face a multi-year wait for new aircraft deliveries. This production bottleneck significantly reduces the immediate strategic importance of the Iranian market for the two aerospace giants, who are already struggling to meet existing demand.
