Former SriLankan Airlines CEO Arrested in Airbus A330 Bribery Case

Kapila Chandrasena, the former CEO of SriLankan Airlines, and his wife have been arrested by Sri Lanka's Criminal Investigation Department. The arrest is linked to a long-running corruption case involving the 2013 purchase and lease of Airbus A330 aircraft. Chandrasena is accused of accepting a USD2 million bribe from a subsidiary of Airbus to influence the deal. This case is part of the wider global bribery scandal that resulted in Airbus paying a record EUR3.6 billion fine in 2020. The couple had reportedly been evading arrest since a warrant was issued four years ago.
