Former SAA Technician Receives 18-Year Prison Sentence for Aircraft Parts Theft

A former South African Airways technician, Johannes George Fouche, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for theft and fraud. The charges relate to a sophisticated scheme involving the theft of aircraft parts from SAA Technical over an eight-year period. From 2008 to 2016, Fouche stole components valued at approximately ZAR41.3 million (USD2.2 million). He then sold the stolen parts through his own private company, Lusaka Aviation Services. The sentence was delivered by the Kempton Park Regional Court, concluding a case that highlights a significant internal security failure at the airline's maintenance division.
