Fayetteville Approves Funding for New Aviation Academy at Drake Field
The Fayetteville City Council has unanimously approved a partnership with Fayetteville Public Schools to establish a new aviation academy at Drake Field. The academy will be housed in the airport's old terminal building, which will undergo extensive renovations. The city is contributing $1 million from its airport fund, while the school district will provide an additional $1.5 million for the project. The program aims to address the nationwide shortage of pilots and mechanics by offering career pathways to high school students. Curriculum will include pilot certification, drone technology, and aircraft maintenance, with a planned opening for the 2027-28 school year.
