F-35 Pilots from 388th Fighter Wing Awarded Distinguished Flying Crosses for Combat Heroism
Four F-35A Lightning II pilots from the 388th Fighter Wing at Hill Air Force Base have been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. The prestigious medals recognize their valor during a complex close-air-support mission in Southwest Asia in 2020. During the operation, the pilots provided crucial air cover for U.S. and coalition ground forces who were under intense enemy fire. Three other Airmen from the wing were also recognized for their critical support roles, receiving the Bronze Star medal for their actions. The ceremony highlighted the exceptional skill of the Airmen and the capabilities of the F-35 in a demanding combat environment.
