EU's ICS2 Rollout: What UK Air Cargo Businesses Need to Know About New Customs Rules
The European Union has launched the third phase of its Import Control System 2 (ICS2), a new IT system for customs pre-arrival security and safety. This phase specifically targets all goods transported by air, requiring economic operators like air carriers and freight forwarders to submit a complete set of Entry Summary Declaration data. UK businesses shipping to or through the EU must now comply with these comprehensive data requirements before goods are loaded onto an aircraft. The transition period for compliance runs until April 1, 2025, and failure to adapt can result in delays, penalties, and rejected shipments at EU borders.
