European Commission Outlines New Aviation Strategy Focused on Sustainability and Competitiveness
The European Commission is developing a new aviation strategy to succeed its 2015 framework, aiming to bolster the sector's global competitiveness. This future plan will prioritize sustainability, resilience, and addressing challenges from the post-COVID recovery and geopolitical shifts. Key pillars of the strategy include advancing the Single European Sky and promoting the uptake of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF). EU Transport Commissioner Adina Valean stated the goal is to create a 'policy toolbox' for the next Commission. A public consultation will be launched to gather industry input before the strategy is finalized, which will guide future legislation.
