Europe Upholds Middle East Flight Restrictions Despite Easing of US Advisories

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is maintaining its flight restrictions and warnings for airspace over several Middle Eastern countries, including Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen. This decision is driven by the continued high risk to civil aircraft from dedicated anti-aviation weaponry and military tensions. EASA's stance contrasts with the US FAA, which has lifted its ban for American carriers over the Gulf and Gulf of Oman. Consequently, European airlines must continue to fly longer, more expensive routes to and from Asia, navigating around these designated conflict zones. The advisory specifically warns against flying at any altitude over Syria and below 25,000 feet over Iran.
