Eumetsat Awards OHB €139 Million Contract for EPS-Sterna Arctic Monitoring Satellites
The European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (Eumetsat) has awarded a significant contract to Germany's OHB System AG. The deal, valued at €139 million ($151 million), is for the Eumetsat Polar System-Sterna (EPS-Sterna) mission. Under the agreement, OHB will develop, build, and test two new satellites designed for Arctic observation. These satellites will provide crucial data on sea-ice extent, concentration, and type from a low-Earth orbit. The mission is critical for enhancing weather forecasting and climate monitoring in the polar regions, with the first launch anticipated in late 2030.
