Eumetsat Awards OHB €130 Million Contract for EPS-Sterna Microsatellites
The European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (Eumetsat) has awarded OHB System AG a contract valued at €130 million ($141 million). This contract is for the development and construction of two microsatellites for the Eumetsat Polar System-Sterna (EPS-Sterna) mission. The primary objective of these satellites is to enhance weather forecasting by measuring microwave radiation, which helps create atmospheric temperature and humidity profiles. The satellites will also collect data from remote weather buoys in the Arctic. The mission is scheduled to launch in 2031, with each satellite designed for a five-year operational lifespan.
