Despite Revenue Dip, Evergreen Signals Optimism for an Early Peak Season
Evergreen Marine Corporation reported a slight 1.7% year-on-year decrease in Q1 2024 revenue, totaling $2.75 billion. However, the company's net profit surged by an impressive 244% to $531 million, largely due to non-operating income from the sale of assets. Company president Eric Hsieh expressed a bullish outlook, anticipating an early start to the peak shipping season, possibly as soon as May. This optimism is driven by factors like US inventory restocking and the ongoing Red Sea crisis, which is extending transit times and creating equipment shortages. Evergreen is also continuing its fleet renewal with orders for 24 new methanol dual-fuel container ships.
