DARPA Delivers Autonomous Black Hawk System to US Army for Advanced Testing

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has officially transferred its Aircrew Labor In-cockpit Automation System (ALIAS) to the U.S. Army. Developed by Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company, the system enables Black Hawk helicopters to fly autonomously with either a reduced crew or no pilots at all. This handover marks the successful completion of DARPA's program, which demonstrated the technology's capabilities through numerous flight tests, including simulated cargo and medical evacuation missions. The U.S. Army will now lead the next phase of development and operational testing. This advanced technology is designed to enhance safety and operational flexibility by reducing pilot workload and enabling flight in degraded visual environments.
