American Airlines Reduces A321XLR Order, Secures $1 Billion for 30 New Aircraft

American Airlines has significantly altered its future fleet plans by reducing its order for the Airbus A321XLR. The carrier is converting 30 of its 50 orders for the long-range jet into the standard A321neo variant, citing production delays and performance uncertainties. This leaves American with a firm commitment for 20 A321XLRs. In a related financial move, the airline successfully sold nearly $1 billion in bonds to raise capital. These funds are earmarked for the acquisition of 30 new aircraft, including Boeing 737 MAX and Embraer E175 jets, as part of its ongoing fleet modernization.
