3M Announces Collaboration with JetZero on Blended-Wing-Body Aircraft Materials

Materials science company 3M has revealed a partnership with startup JetZero to supply advanced materials for its Z-5 blended-wing-body (BWB) demonstrator. 3M will provide its Glass Bubbles, a lightweight additive used to reduce the density and weight of composite parts. This collaboration is crucial for JetZero's goal of creating a highly fuel-efficient aircraft design. The Z-5 is a subscale demonstrator, backed by the U.S. Air Force, intended to prove the viability of BWB technology for future mid-market commercial airliners. The partnership signals a key step in maturing the materials and manufacturing processes needed for this next-generation aircraft concept.
