Wizz Air Warns of Summer Disruption as Engine Recall Grounds 50 Aircraft
Wizz Air has issued a warning regarding its summer flight capacity, as it expects around 50 of its aircraft to be grounded by the end of March. The grounding is due to a mandatory recall of Pratt & Whitney's Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines, which require inspection for a rare powder metal defect. Chief executive József Váradi described the situation as the company's biggest challenge, forcing a downward revision of growth plans. The airline is actively seeking financial compensation from Pratt & Whitney to mitigate the significant impact on its operations. To manage the disruption, Wizz Air is extending existing aircraft leases and acquiring new planes.
