Wizz Air Warns of Flight Reductions as Pratt & Whitney Engine Checks Ground Aircraft
Wizz Air has announced it expects a significant reduction in flight capacity next year due to mandatory engine inspections. The issue stems from a manufacturing flaw in Pratt & Whitney engines that power its Airbus A320neo family fleet. A rare condition with contaminated metal powder used in high-pressure turbine discs requires accelerated checks. The airline anticipates that around 10% of its fleet could be grounded in the first half of 2024. Wizz Air is seeking financial compensation from the engine manufacturer to mitigate the operational and financial impact.
