Wizz Air Warns of Financial Hit as Pratt & Whitney Engine Issues Ground 45 Aircraft
Wizz Air has issued a warning that its profitability will be negatively impacted by the grounding of dozens of its jets. The airline currently has approximately 45 Airbus A320neo family aircraft out of service for mandatory engine inspections. This action is necessary due to a manufacturing defect involving a contaminated metal powder in Pratt & Whitney's Geared Turbofan engines. While Wizz Air reported a record annual profit, the reduced fleet capacity creates significant uncertainty for its future financial performance. The carrier is seeking compensation from the engine manufacturer to offset the disruption.
