Wizz Air Warns of Financial Hit as Engine Problems Ground 45 Aircraft
Wizz Air has lowered its profit forecast, citing the ongoing need to ground aircraft for mandatory engine inspections. The low-cost carrier has parked 45 jets, approximately 20% of its fleet, due to issues with Pratt & Whitney's Geared Turbofan engines. These engines require checks for a rare powder metal defect, a problem affecting airlines globally. Chief Executive Jozsef Varadi described the groundings as an "unprecedented operational challenge." Despite this, the airline carried a record 15.1 million passengers in the final three months of 2023.
