Wizz Air Warns of Financial Hit as Engine Issues Ground 45 Aircraft
Wizz Air has announced it will ground approximately 45 of its aircraft due to a widespread manufacturing flaw in Pratt & Whitney's Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines. The grounding, set to begin in January, is necessary for mandatory inspections to check for microscopic cracks in a key component. This will reduce the airline's flight capacity and has forced it to lower its full-year profit forecast. Wizz Air stated the issue would impact its capacity by about 10% in the second half of its financial year. The carrier is seeking financial compensation from Pratt & Whitney to mitigate the operational and financial disruption.
