Wizz Air to Reduce Flights for Mandatory Pratt & Whitney Engine Inspections
Wizz Air has announced it will ground a portion of its fleet, leading to a significant reduction in flight capacity. The action is necessary to conduct accelerated inspections on Pratt & Whitney's Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines. This follows the discovery of a "rare condition" in a powder metal used for certain engine components, which requires checks across a global fleet. The airline anticipates a 10% drop in capacity for the second half of its financial year. Wizz Air has stated it is seeking financial compensation from Pratt & Whitney to mitigate the operational and financial impact.
