Wizz Air to Ground More Aircraft for Mandatory Pratt & Whitney Engine Checks
Wizz Air has announced it will need to ground more of its Airbus A320neo family aircraft for accelerated engine inspections. The mandatory checks are required by engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney due to a "rare condition" in the powdered metal used for certain high-pressure turbine disks. This issue will force the airline to ground approximately 45 jets at any one time, leading to a projected 10% capacity reduction in the second half of the financial year. The disruption is expected to continue until 2026. Wizz Air has stated it will seek financial compensation from Pratt & Whitney for the significant operational impact.
