Wizz Air to Ground Hundreds of Aircraft for Accelerated Pratt & Whitney Engine Checks
Wizz Air faces significant operational disruption as it must conduct accelerated inspections on Pratt & Whitney engines across its Airbus A320neo fleet. The checks are mandated due to a rare powder metal defect found in high-pressure turbine discs, an issue affecting numerous airlines globally. Approximately 300 of the carrier's aircraft will require these inspections between 2023 and 2026. As a result, Wizz Air anticipates a 10% reduction in capacity for the latter half of the 2024 financial year and is seeking financial compensation from the engine manufacturer.
