Wizz Air to Ground Aircraft and Cut Capacity Due to Engine Inspections
Wizz Air has announced it will ground a significant portion of its fleet for mandatory engine inspections, forcing a reduction in its growth forecast. The issue affects Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines on its Airbus A320 family aircraft. A rare condition in the powder metal used for certain engine components requires accelerated checks across the industry. Consequently, the airline now anticipates capacity growth in the mid-teens, a notable decrease from the previously projected 20 percent. Wizz Air is currently exploring options like lease extensions to mitigate the disruption.
