Wizz Air to Ground 50 Aircraft for Mandatory Pratt & Whitney Engine Inspections
Wizz Air anticipates grounding approximately 50 of its Airbus A320neo family jets due to an issue with their Pratt & Whitney (P&W) engines. The problem stems from a rare condition in the powder metal used for certain high-pressure turbine discs, which requires accelerated inspections. This action is expected to reduce the airline's capacity by about 5% in the second half of the year. Wizz Air has stated it will seek financial compensation from P&W for the disruptions. The engine issue is not isolated to one airline and is affecting carriers globally that operate aircraft with these GTF engines.
