Wizz Air to Ground 45 Aircraft, Cut Capacity Due to Mandatory Engine Checks
Wizz Air has announced it will ground around 45 of its Airbus aircraft, leading to a 10% capacity reduction in the latter half of its financial year. The decision follows a directive from engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney for accelerated inspections on its Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines. The checks are necessary to address a rare condition in the powdered metal used for certain engine components. This is an industry-wide issue affecting multiple carriers operating aircraft with these engines. Wizz Air has stated it will seek financial compensation from the manufacturer for the significant operational disruption.
