Wizz Air to Cut Capacity by 10% as Pratt & Whitney Engine Issues Ground Aircraft
Wizz Air has announced it will reduce its flight capacity by 10% in the second half of the financial year due to mandatory engine inspections. The issue stems from a rare powder metal defect found in Pratt & Whitney's Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines, which power the airline's Airbus A320neo family fleet. A significant number of Wizz Air's aircraft will be grounded for accelerated checks. The airline is now seeking financial compensation from the engine manufacturer to offset the operational disruption. To mitigate the impact, Wizz Air is also extending leases on older aircraft and seeking to lease replacement planes.
