Wizz Air Reduces Flight Capacity as Pratt & Whitney Engine Checks Force Groundings
Wizz Air has announced it will ground approximately 45 of its aircraft, leading to a reduction in flight capacity throughout the winter season. The decision is a direct result of an issue with Pratt & Whitney's Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines, which require accelerated inspections. The engine manufacturer's parent company, RTX, identified a rare condition in powder metal used for certain components, mandating the checks. This global issue affects numerous airlines operating the Airbus A320neo family of aircraft. Wizz Air anticipates a significant financial impact and is working to minimize disruption for its passengers.
