Wizz Air Lowers Profit Forecast Amid Ongoing Pratt & Whitney Engine Inspections
Wizz Air has reduced its full-year profit forecast, citing the ongoing need to ground aircraft for mandatory engine inspections. The airline expects its profits to be in the range of €350m to €400m, down from a previous estimate that reached as high as €450m. This financial impact is a direct result of having to ground approximately 45 aircraft by March 2024. The issue stems from a rare powder metal defect in Pratt & Whitney GTF engines, which necessitates accelerated checks across multiple global airlines. Wizz Air is currently seeking financial compensation from the engine manufacturer to offset the significant operational disruption.
